Bahamas is one of my favorite places to vacation. But I cringe to think of what it looks like today.
After the devastating Category 5 Hurricane Dorian came through and tore the place up, it’s nice to know that there is help on the way by some of our favorite black celebrities.
Michael Jordan Pledges $1,000,000
These are some of those that have stepped up to show their support for the more than 76,000 people effected by the hurricane and left without shelter, food and hope on the island of the Bahamas.
Jordan states that he is monitoring the situation and will give to non-profits that will have the most impact. He has pledged $1 Million Dollars.
Perry’s personal seaplane, which is located in Nassau, has already made at least two trips, delivering water, sleeping bags and toiletries to areas hardest hit by the hurricane, as reported by TMZ. Stating via his Instagram page, Perry writes –
“To all the incredible people of the Bahamas who have welcomed me and called me an adoptive son, I want you to know that I am watching closely, and as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better…”
Obviously moved, Rihanna tweeted, “It truly breaks my heart to see the complete devastation that #HurricaneDorian is having on the Bahamas! You are in our prayers and @ClaraLionelFdn is already figuring out how best we can help!”
Announcing through his annual LudaDay Weekend, the rapper donated more than $100,000 to a hurricane relief fund.
As told to CNN, Kravitz plans to send boats with “basic needs, generators, chainsaws, flashlights, water, food, roofing materials, drop cloths…” through his Let Love Rule Foundation. “But the end goal is to get the Islands back on their feet” he says. Kravitz’ mother, the late actress Roxie Roker was of Bahamian descent.
As reported by Essence, the Sacramento Kings star pledged to donate $100,000 to help Hurricane Dorian relief efforts. Also, to “raise money for those who need so much.” he started a GoFundMe campaign.
The Tourisum Industry are also coming to the rescue in a huge way. Several cruise lines have Offered $1 Million Dollars or more, namely Royal Carribbean Cruise Line. Norwegian Cruise Line has also pledged at least a million dollars. Additionally, Carnival Cruise Line have made big pledges.
Donations continue to flood in, and that’s offering hope to those in need.
