Cynthia Erivo Is Harriet Tubman In New Movie!!!

Cynthia Erivo plays Abolitionist, Harriet Tubman in new movie, Harriet.

Everyone knows the story of Harriett Tubman, the brave slave who gained the freedom of herself and hundreds more by way of the ‘Underground Railroad.’ Required reading in school, but mostly taught during Black History Month.

Now for the first time ever, her courageous road to freedom is captured on the big screen.

Cynthia Erivo Brings Harriet Tubman To Life

Set in 1849 in the state of Maryland, when Araminta “Minty” Ross, a woman whose only life she knows was as a slave, is married to a free man.

Because the two were not allowed to live together by her young master, Minty dashes for her freedom by going on a 100 mile journey North. All By herself. Needless to say, this was a treacherous undertaking.

Nothing less than miraculous, she survives, ending up in the state of Philadelphia. There she finds an entire network of sympathetic brothers and sisters. as described by Entertainment Weekly.

Commemorating her free status, she changed her name. By combining her mothers first name, and her husbands last name, Mrs. Araminta Ross eagerly renamed herself Harriett Tubman.

But her own freedom wasn’t enough for Harriet, she would risk everything to go back South to get her family. While successfully leading her people to freedom again and again, freeing hundreds, Ms. Tubman gained another nickname, ‘Moses’.

Directed by Kasi Lemmons who also serves as co-writer of the screenplay with Gregory Allen Howard. Harriet was written by Gregory Allen who also has a Producer credit along side Debra Martin Chase and Daniela Taplin Lundberg.

Harriet hits theaters on November 1st.
