Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith star in new romantic thriller, Queen & Slim. When, as known all too well in the black community, what should have been a routine stop, turns into a life threatening situation.
Think ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ meets ‘Thelma and Louise’ meets ‘Set It Off’
As described by the Source, think Bonnie & Clyde meets Thelma and Louise meets Set it Off! Collaborating, writers James Frey and Lena Waithe came up with the original story.
After a normal first date, and riding home after dinner at the end of the evening, young black couple Queen and Slim are confronted by flashing red and blue lights. Though they were stopped for ‘failing to use a turn signal’, things rapidly get out of hand. After shots are fired, Queen and Slim find themselves fugitives on the run across the country.

Announcing the film at the BET Awards this summer, Waithe stated –
“I wanted to explore a world where getting pulled over by the police is like playing Russian roulette, and your only weapon against injustice is your ability to never let go of who you are.”

Describing the film, Melina Matsoukas in her feature directorial debut, states –
“It’s a story of resistance and a story in which we are never victims and most importantly, a story about the strength of Black love,”
