Kerry Washington stars in “American Son”, a film involving the mysterious disappearance of a missing child and the part race plays at the police department.
Kerry Washington Executive Produces New Netflix Film
Based on the Broadway play of the same name, American Son is a Netflix film that follows the parents of Jamal, a missing teenaged boy.
Though they struggle to cope with their sons sudden disappearance, that’s not the only thing they have to worry about. Parents Kendra Ellis-Connor (who is black) and her estranged husband, Scott Connor (who is white) must also face racism head on when seeking help to find their son. All while at the police station.

Unfolding one night when her son goes missing, Kendra, played by Washington, becomes frantic and goes to the police station seeking answers.
As reported by USA Today, Washington described the racially charged film like this –
“I thought it was so probing and provocative and explosive and moving.”
“This conversation about our community and how we coexist and love each other across cultural divides is (one) that should be had by everyone all over the world.”
