Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Re-imagined As A Drama By You-Tuber Morgan Cooper
O.K., So I was cruisin’ through YouTube and came across this gem. Apparently, over a year ago on March 19th a fan uploaded his take on a dramatic version of our beloved sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
YouTuber Morgan Cooper imagined a dramatic take on the comedy we all know and love.
Simply calling it Bel-Air, the 4-minute clip went viral and caught the eye of Will Smith. Fast forward to now, the Bel-Air drama has been in the works for over a year now. Check out the trailer for yourself.
Brilliant, right? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith and Morgan Cooper are teaming up to adapt the dramatic reimagining of Will Smith’s hit NBC comedy from back in the day, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Cooper created and directed the trailer that reimagined the series as if it were a drama. When picked up, Cooper will serve as director, co-scriptwriter (with Chris Collins) and have a credit as an Executive Producer.
So what’s different this time around?
Bel-Air is described as a dramatic take on street-smart kid who moved from West Philly to the posh Los Angeles neighborhood we came to love over 6 seasons.
With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
In His Own Words, Will Smith Gives His Take On The Fresh Prince Dramatic Reboot
Currently being shopped around to streamers, Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal TV (producers of the original show) are on board. Sources say those bidding on this project include Peacock, Netflix and HBO Max.
Also set to return to this new possible series is Quincy Jones and Benny Medina. Additionally, creators Andy and Susan Borowitz are all set to return as executive producers.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran from 1990-1996 on NBC. All the main characters in this dramatic adaptation will be in the series. The original cast consisted of Will Smith, James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana M. Ali, Joseph Marcell and Janet Hubert-Whitten/Daphne Maxwell Reid.
I can’t wait for the reboot, looks really good.
