Lauryn Hill First Female Rapper With Certified Diamond Status!!!

Lauryn Hill has achieved a fate no other female rapper has…her super-duper hit debut solo album has Certified Diamond status by RIAA! That’s 10 Million Units Sold! In celebration of black history month, let’s take a look at all those hit songs she dropped on just one album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”!

Lauryn Hill Drops “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” on August 25, 1998

What were you doing on August 25, 1998? No doubt, you were getting schooled by the soulful grooves of Lauryn Hills debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill! Spanning the genres of Neo Soul, R&B, Hip Hop, and Reggae, Ms. Hill captivated the music industry like rarely done before.

This track listing reads like a greatest hits of someones entire music career. But, Ms. Hill did all this with just one album. Let’s take a listen to this beautiful project, where each track is a gem. Though it was hard to do, these are my favorites.

INTRO

LOST ONES

EX-FACTOR

TO ZION (Featuring Carlos Santana)

DOO-WOP (THAT THING)

SUPERSTAR

EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING

I Use To Love Him (Featuring MAry J. Blige)

FORGIVE THEM FATHER

EVERY GHETTO, EVERY CITY

NOTHING EVEN MATTERS (FEATURING D’ANGELO)

STILL LISTENING?…THESE ARE TWO HIDDEN TRACKS ON THE ALBUM

TELL HIM

CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF YOU

O.K., I admit…that was nearly the whole album. So, just to name those few songs just as cool, even though not featured here –

  • Final Hour
  • When It Hurts So Bad
  • The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill received praise and accolades from all over the music industry right out of the gate. Debuting at #1 on Billboard’s 200 charts (and staying there for 91 weeks), the lead single Doo-Wop (That Thing) sold more than 422,000 copies in its first week.

Launching her to international status, the artist won 5 of 10 nominations at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards! Her solo project was arguably one of the greatest solo album releases ever. And the first to win Album of the Year and Best R&B Album.

Eventually, the success of the album led to a sold-out international tour. Radio.com called this album “nearly perfect”, and I tend to agree. I will never get tired of listening to this album.

Congrat’s Miss Hill! Job well done.
