Luther Vandross had all the ladies swooning to his deep, soulful voice. Now, the R&B singer is honored with a Google video doodle.

Luther Vandross Would Be 70 Years Old Today
Vandross would have turned 70 years old today, April 20th.
When you visited Google today, no doubt you saw the cartoonish picture of a man singing, and you thought, “Hey, that looks like Luther Vandross!” Well, you were right.
If you click on the Google Doodle you will be treated to an animated version of his hit song, “Never Too Much.” Most likely, this is the song that introduced you to this musical icon.
“Never Too Much” hit #1 on Billboard, and was the title track to his 1981 studio album of the same name. “Never Too Much” was written, composed, produced, and performed by Vandross.

Background Vocals Propelled Luther To The Spotlight
Before the spotlight found Luther and placed him firmly on center stage, he was well sought after as a background vocalist.
Sharing the stage with superstars like Bette Midler, Patti Labelle, Donny Hathaway, Donna Summer, David Bowe, Ben E. King, Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack and Diana Ross…just to name a few.
Some of his biggest hits were covers of other artists’ songs. But once he put his spin on it, you didn’t even recognize that someone else sang those lyrics before.
Can’t you still remember the way Luther would guide his every word, making his voice tremble up and down the music scale?
Luther sold over 35 million records and was honored with 8 Grammy awards in his career. And though he left us in 2005, his voice will forever hold a spot in our collective memories as one of the most beautiful altos of all time.
Rest in Heaven Peace, Mr. Vandross!
