Colin Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay Team Up For New Netflix Series

Colin Kaepernick, together with Ava DuVernay brings us the explosive Netflix 6-episode series of his beginnings.

Exploring his lifelong dream and passion of becoming a quarterback, to what led him to ultimately become an activist.

Arriving later this month, the former NFL quarterback turned civil rights activist shares his origin story.

Who is Colin Kaepernick Really?

For 6 seasons, he played for the San Francisco 49ers.

But one day, in protest of police brutality and racial inequality in the United States, he took a knee.

At the start of an NFL game, during the national anthem, he knelt down.

With one knee, he brought a movement much bigger than himself to the forefront.

Even with him being the WAC Offensive Player of the year twice (in 2008 and 2010).

Even with him having the record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game in the NFL.

And even though he holds the NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season.

Today, he is without a position on an NFL football team.

Still in his prime, he still practices. Every. Single. Day.

Collaborating With Ava DuVernay

During a news release about the series, Colin says he knew, after meeting her in 2017, that Ava DuVernay was the right person to collaborate with.

Also, he had this to say about his beginnings.

“In high school, I faced a lot of different challenges to sports, to my family, and other parts of my personal life…”

“But I also faced obstacles as a black kid growing up in a white family in a white community.” – Colin Kaepernick

33-year-old Colin Rand Kaepernick, once the electrifying quarterback in the NFL, lays it all out in Netflix’s Colin In Black And White.

The message…”Some people play the game…others change it!”

Additionally, Ava states –

“…it’s about knowing that within your individual story, you are also a part of something larger.”

As stated in a Nike ad featuring Kaepernick –

“Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

Along with Paul Garnes, creators Ava DuVernay and Colin serve as Executive Producers.

Documenting his teenage years, as the black adopted child of a white family, Colin narrates his own story…through his eyes.

MY PERSONAL REVIEW

O.K. let me pause right here.

I wrote this article before it actually came out.

And soon as it hit Netflix, I was all in.

I believe this is one of the best shows I have watched in a long time.

I would give this project 2 thumbs up (and if I had another thumb, I’d give him that one too).

Not only did he tell his story, but a lot of African Americans will relate to it.

And the way the story is told, Excellent!!!

After the 6 episodes were over, I didn’t want it to be over…I wanted more!

Outstanding job Colin, and the fabulous Ava DuVernay for breathing new life into the story, not only of Colin Kaepernick but black America as a whole. Bravo!

And for all those who don’t get it…you really, really don’t get it!!!!

Directed by the award-winning Ava DuVernay, The 6-episode limited drama series, Colin in Black And White, premiered on October 29th.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re doing yourself an injustice.

Now, let me go back and watch it again!
