Viola Davis reigns supreme in this epic trailer for her new movie, The Woman King.
And the story is based on actual events, the true story of the Dahomey Amazons.
Taking no prisoners, the Oscar/Emmy-winning actress portrays General Nanisca of the Dahomey Amazons (an all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey).
However, Nawi, an ambitious recruit is played by Thuso Mbedu, and she is just as dynamic.
The story depicts how they “fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they have lived for.”
Sony Pictures describes it as telling the –
“…remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen.”
